Hyaluronic acid
Overview
Overview
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance found in the human body, particularly in connective tissues, joints, and skin. It is a key component of the extracellular matrix and plays a vital role in various physiological processes.
In the cosmetic industry, it is a popular ingredient in skincare and beauty products for: hydration; wrinkles and fine lines reduction in skincare products; volume enhancement in dermal fillers injected into the skin.
In the pharmaceutical industry, hyaluronic acid serves various medical and therapeutic purposes, including: ophthalmology, where its viscous nature helps maintain a stable tear film on the eye's surface; orthopedics, in injections that help lubricate and cushion the joints; wound healing and reducing in post-procedure care; inflammation control; drug delivery, encapsulating drugs and releasing them gradually; dermal and transdermal drug delivery, as a carrier, facilitating the absorption of certain medications through the skin.
Olsa has supplied several processing systems for this specific product, to manufacture:
- intra-articular solutions for osteoarthritis treatment, with high molecular weight and high viscosity
- intra-ocular solutions for artificial tears production
- skin-care products and dermal fillers
Thanks to a long-time experience with this product, Olsa can provide the proper design for the needed equipment, such as vacuum mixer homogenizers, CIP/SIP skids and Temperature Control Units (TCUs).
Our equipment for this application is available in sizes ranging from 5 liters to 10,000 liters, catering to a wide range of production needs from laboratory to industrial production.
Thanks to the synergy with MGA (Masco Group Automation), Olsa can provide an automation package to guarantee process control and related reporting.
